Two Decades of Uncompromising Dentistry

98ln Dental Atelier was founded on a simple premise: that dental care deserves the same dedication, craftsmanship, and intellectual rigour as any other refined discipline. What began as one practitioner's vision has grown into a multidisciplinary practice trusted by thousands of Sydney patients.

A Practice Built on Conviction

In 2006, Dr. William Murray left a successful career in hospital-based prosthodontics to establish a different kind of dental practice. After years of watching patients receive competent but fragmented care—diagnostic work in one clinic, surgery in another, restorations in a third—he envisioned a place where all disciplines worked in concert under one philosophical roof.

The name "98ln" was chosen deliberately. In architecture, a 98ln is a territory with clear boundaries and coherent design. In mathematics, it's the set of inputs that define a function. In our practice, it represents the complete territory of oral health over which we accept responsibility—from preventive hygiene to complex surgical reconstruction.

The word "atelier" reflects our approach to the work itself. An atelier is a workshop where skilled practitioners create bespoke objects through patient, iterative processes. We don't manufacture smiles. We craft them, one case at a time, with the same care a master tailor brings to a bespoke suit or a luthier to a fine instrument.

Eighteen years later, 98ln remains guided by those original convictions. We have grown carefully, adding specialists who share our philosophy rather than simply expanding capacity. We have invested continuously in education and technology, not to chase novelty but to improve outcomes. And we have maintained the same physical home—a converted warehouse near Circular Quay—because we believe consistency matters.

Values That Shape Every Decision

These core values are not aspirations but operational commitments—they inform hiring, purchasing, clinical decisions, and daily practice.

Intellectual Honesty

We tell patients what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. When treatment is unnecessary, we say so. When outcomes are uncertain, we acknowledge this. When we lack expertise, we refer.

Craftsmanship Over Convenience

We choose the longer path when it produces better outcomes. Hand-layered porcelain over monolithic zirconia where aesthetics matter. Additional appointments when tissue healing requires patience.

Evidence-Based Practice

Every protocol, material, and technique we employ is supported by peer-reviewed research or documented long-term outcomes. We adopt innovations cautiously and only after validation.

Human-Centred Care

Patients are people first—individuals with anxieties, preferences, and life contexts that shape their care. We make space for conversation and proceed at a pace that respects autonomy.

Collaborative Excellence

Complex cases benefit from multiple perspectives. We regularly consult across disciplines, seek second opinions within our team, and maintain relationships with external specialists.

Continuous Development

Every team member undertakes continuing education beyond mandatory requirements. We maintain active membership in study clubs, attend international conferences, and contribute to peer review.

Our Senior Clinical Leadership
